Lahaul-Spiti: The wave of recent floods in Himachal Pradesh has created a ruckus in the state. At least 150 people, mostly tourists, and numerous vehicles were stranded near Chatru and Dorni Morh because the Sumdo-Kaza-Gramphoo (SKG) road in Lahaul sub division had been closed due to a fresh flood on Sunday.
Overall, 105 stranded people have been rescued so far after the flash flood trapped them in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti districts on Sunday.
A huge number of parked vehicles were damaged by the fall of big stones or parts of rocks on them. A three-hour rescue operation occurred in full swing, launched by security personnel. According to the reports, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had worked from pillar to post in the rescue operation, pressing three trucks to evacuate trapped people.
The flash flooding disrupted traffic as well as National Highway 505, which connects Sissu to Nako. Floods have blocked nine roads as well.
Most of the tourists were taken to Koksar hours after the rise of water levels in the Dorni rivulet because of heavy downpours that generated flash flooding.
