Maharajganj: Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj has been experiencing a mysterious disease for the last ten months, caused by pesticides in breast milk, which led to the demise of newly born babies. However, the real reason for the disease has not been found out.
111 newborns have died due to mysterious reasons within the last ten months in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj, while the real reason for the disease hasn’t been discovered yet. According to a study by Lucknow’s Queen Mary Hospital, pesticides have been found in the milk of pregnant women. This may be the reason behind the infant deaths.
This could be one of the reasons behind the rise in mortality rates.
Pesticides in breast milk
Researchers at Lucknow’s Queen Mary Hospital claimed that pesticides were found in the milk of pregnant women; they found this after a test conducted on 130 vegetarian and non-vegetarian pregnant women. Less pesticide was found in vegetarian women in comparison to non-vegetarians.
Newborn babies can’t eat anything, but some amount of pesticide is found in breast milk, and during breast feeding, it reaches the bodies of infants, leading to the death of so many children.
3-member committee
The matter is so sensitive that a three- member committee was formed by the District Magistrate (DM) under the chairmanship of the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to probe the reason behind the deaths of infants.
