NEW DELHI: An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck western Nepal on Friday night has caused massive destruction. At least 128 people have died and dozens of people have been injured in this powerful earthquake. Officials say that the death toll is expected to increase. Strong tremors were felt for several seconds in Delhi-NCR region after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal.
The local officials said that no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage. Tremors were also felt in other districts in north India including Prayagraj, Faridabad, Gurugram, Varanasi, Sultanpur, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, and Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
On Friday night, the earthquake struck at around 11:32 pm. As of now, no reports of any casualties or damages have been received so far. However, a 6.4 earthquake is considered to be pretty strong. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the quake was in Nepal at a depth of 10 km.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur, tremors were felt for two times for several seconds. Some people have also shared videos of ceiling fans, chandeliers swinging due to tremors. Take a look. A resident of Gurugram said, “The tremors were felt for quite some time as we were watching television and enjoying the weekend.”

The National Centre for Seismology said the epicentre of the earthquake was in Nepal, about 227 km north of Ayodhya and 331 km west northwest of Kathmandu. The focal depth of the quake was 10 km, the NCS added. Apart from Delhi-NCR, strong tremors were also felt in Bihar. As people felt earthquake tremors in Patna, they rushed out of their homes. The tremors went around for 15-20 seconds.
A resident of Noida said,”I was watching TV and felt like little dizzy all of a sudden… then I saw on the TV about earthquake and suddenly I came out of my home.” A resident of Patna Arun Kumar, who felt tremors, said, “I was lying on the bed and the bed started vibrating. We understand it was an earthquake.”
A resident of a high-rise apartment in Noida said,”I first thought the tremors were because of a passing vehicle, but soon saw the ceiling fan shaking. It went on for a while.” According to the information, this is the third time in a month that strong quakes have struck Nepal.
