14 dead, 60 injured in blast in Kabul airport

Afghanistan: The police informed, in an incident that took place in Kabul killed at least 14 people and 60 others got injured in a blast which shook the Kabul airport. The blast took place shortly after Afghan Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum returned from self-imposed exile.

As per the media reports, Dostum was unhurt in the attack on Sunday on a square he had just passed through.

After Dostum was accused of ordering his men to kidnap and rape a political rival, he denied the accusations and left for Turkey more than a year ago.

Militant group Islamic State has said it carried out the attack.

Explaining the incident to the media, Kabul police personnel Hashmat Estankzai went on to say that nine security forces members and traffic officers were among the 14 who had died, while another 60 people had been injured.

Estankzai earlier told the media that a suicide attacker on foot had set off his explosives outside the gate of the airport.

Some reports said Gen Dostum’s convoy was departing as the blast was heard. He was in an armoured vehicle.
