Moscow: Two cargo ships have collided in the Baltic Sea near the coast of Sweden, two people are in the water, the Nordic News online portal reported on Monday.
The incident took place in the waters between Sweden’s Ystad town and Denmark’s Bornholm Island.
A rescue operation has been launched, the news outlet added.
“We do not know exactly how it happened”, Jonas Franzen, communications manager at the Swedish Maritime Administration told national broadcaster SVT.
“The Danish ship had at least two persons onboard,” Franzen said.
A major rescue operation is underway, with at least ten rescue boats from both Denmark and Sweden working on the spot. Several helicopters are also searching the area.
