New Delhi: On Sunday, India’s shuttler PV Sindhu has won the title of Singapore Open Super-500 badminton tournament (Singapore Open 2022). India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu defeated China’s Wang Xie in the women’s singles final. He won this match 21-9, 11-21 and 21-15. Sindhu has won this first Super-500 badminton tournament this year. Earlier, Sindhu had won two Super-300 tournaments, Syed Modi International and Swiss Open. Sindhu became the second Indian women’s shuttler – and third Indian overall – to win the Singapore Open title. Saina Nehwal (2010) and B Sai Praneeth (2017) have earlier lifted the title in women’s and men’s singles events respectively.
PV Sindhu faced a tough competition from China’s Wang Zhi Yi in the women’s singles final of the Singapore Open. The Chinese player had a great start in the first gum and scored 2 points in a row. However, after this Sindhu made a tremendous comeback showing a great game in the nets and scored 13 points in a row. Then Sindhu did not look back and won the first game easily 21-9.
In the second game, China’s Wang Xie made a tremendous comeback and scored 6 points in a row. However, after this Sindhu reduced the gap by taking two points. But, Wang Xie again took the lead over the net and cross court to over 8 points before winning the second game 21-11.
In the third game too, China’s Wang Xie made a good start and got three points. Sindhu trailed for the first time in the final. However, after this Wang made a mistake and Sindhu took advantage of this to reduce the lead first and then took a one point lead herself. Sindhu was leading 11-6 at the break in the third gum. But, after this the Chinese player scored 3 points in a row, narrowing the lead to 2 points. But, Sindhu did not break under the pressure and again took a lead of 4 points and won the Singapore Open after winning the third game 21-15.
This was Sindhu’s first final after winning the Korea Open title in March this year. At the same time, Wang Xie had previously played the final of the Indonesia Open in June, in which she lost to Tai Tzu Ying. The Singapore Open was his second final of the year. After the win Sindhu said, “Getting this title means a lot, this would give me a lot of confidence, this will take me to another level. The whole week, a couple of matches were in three games, some were in two. But each match was important from the start. Now it’s time to relax a bit and focus on the Commonwealth Games. This is just the start, but it’ll give me a lot of confidence.”
Earlier, Sindhu defeated Saina Kawakami of Japan 21-15, 21-7 in the semi-finals of the Singapore Open. Sindhu won this match in just 31 minutes. Sindhu won the bronze medal in the Asian Championship this year.
PV Sindhu defeated Lian Tan in the first round of the Singapore Open. He then defeated Lin Nguyen 19-21, 21-19 and 21-18. The Indian shuttler had registered a victory over Han Yui in the quarter-finals.
