26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind and senior commander of LeT terrorists Azam Cheema dies in Pakistan

Mumbai: A senior commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group and key conspirator in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Azam Cheema has died in Faisalabad city of Pakistan due of a heart attack. The news was confirmed by top intelligence sources, as per reports.

Mumbai: A senior commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group and key conspirator in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks Azam Cheema has died in Faisalabad city of Pakistan due of a heart attack. as per reports, the news was confirmed by top intelligence sources.

According to the information, Cheema was the mastermind of the 2006 train bombings in Mumbai that killed 188 people and injured more than 800 people. Cheema was wanted by the United States for allegedly training terrorists who carried out the 26/11 attacks which killed 166 people and injured more than 300 others.

Cheema’s funeral was held in Malkhanwala, Faisalabad, according to the sources. In 2010, the US Treasury Department targeted the financial networks of LeT and took action against Cheema. A statement by the department said that Cheema had been involved in LeT’s training activities, specifically training operatives in bomb-making and skills needed to infiltrate India.

On November 26, 2008, 10 Pakistani terrorists entered the south Mumbai areas through a sea route and attacked a number of places, including the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. In September 2023, Muhammad Riaz, also known as Abu Qasim Kashmiri, was shot dead by an unknown person at a mosque in Rawalakot, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
