West Bengal authorities have undertaken a significant reshuffle in the police department, transferring at least 285 inspector-ranking officers across the state in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In the recent past, Rajeev Kumar assumed the role of acting Director General of the state police following the retirement of his predecessor, Manoj Malviya. The state administration has been witnessing key changes, with transfers involving significant Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in both West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police.
On December 27, the West Bengal government appointed former Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar as the new Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG and IGP). He succeeded Manoj Malviya, who retired on the same day. Kumar, a 1989-batch IPS officer, currently serving as the Secretary of the Information and Technology Department, took charge immediately.
