Hong Kong: Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific flight CX880 was grounded before take-off from the international airport due to a technical problem in the early hours of Saturday. Eleven passengers were injured during the emergency evacuation.
The injured passengers were sent to hospital, out of which 9 have been discharged. The Hong Kong to Los Angeles flight had 17 crew members and 293 passengers.
Public broadcaster RTHK quoted police as saying one of the plane’s tires had overheated, causing it to burst.
Cathay issued a statement saying that passengers exited the aircraft using five door escape slides. ‘Our partners will continue to provide support to the two hospitalized passengers and their families,’ Cathay said. The airline Cathay has also apologized for the inconvenience caused to the customers.
