Srinagar: In a significant seismic event, a 3.9 magnitude earthquake rippled through the northern regions of India, specifically the area of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours of January 4, 2024. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the seismic event occurred at 12:38 am IST and originated from a shallow depth of 5 kilometers.
The coordinates of the earthquake were carefully recorded at latitude 33.34 and longitude 76.67. Despite the notable shaking that shook the area, fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage or serious consequences. The tremors were felt by residents across Jammu and Kashmir, but to date the event has been classified as minor seismic activity without any significant impact.
According to the NCS, the quake occurred at 12.38 am at a depth of 5 km. “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.9, Occurred on 04-01-2024, 00:38:15 IST, Lat: 33.34 & Long: 76.67, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Jammu & Kashmir, India,” further said in a post on X.
