Kolkata: A major train accident was averted in West Bengal on Thursday (February 23). 3 coaches of Howrah-Amta local train derailed near Maju railway halt. South Eastern Railway officials along with the accident relief train from Santragachi reached the spot. There was no information about any casualty.

On Thursday itself, wagons of a goods train derailed in Bihar’s Rohtas. Thirteen bogies of a goods train derailed on Thursday morning near a sub-line of the dedicated freight corridor between Dehri Pahleja and Karabandia railway stations.

The incident took place at 9.55 pm on Wednesday near Sita Vigha village in which 13 empty coaches derailed, an official said. An East Central Railway official said that no one was injured in the incident. He said that five coaches of the goods train were damaged and they have been repaired. Our priority was to fix the track so that the disrupted trains could start operating.

He said that both the lines of the freight corridor near Chiraila Pauthu railway station were disrupted due to this. The up line was restored at 10.15 am today by removing the coaches. Operations on the down line are likely to be restored by this evening. The official said that the reasons for the derailment of the coaches of the goods train are yet to be ascertained.
