Chennai: In a tragic incident, a total of three people were killed and at least 10 others injured due to the collapse of a crane during a temple festival in a village near Tamil Nadu’s Chennai.
The incident happened when people were busy celebrating the Draupathi Amman festival at Kilveedhi village in Nemili near Chennai at 8.15 pm on Sunday.
A huge number of people were gathered on this auspicious occasion at the Mandi Amman temple in Nemili. The accident took place while the devotees were trying to garland the temple idols by getting onto a crane.
The crane suddenly collapsed as it failed to bear the weight of three people, three people died on the spot, and several were severely injured. A bystander’s camera caught the entire incident, which created a stampede-like situation as people started running from here and there in panic.
Meanwhile, the deceased had been identified as Muthukumar, Boopalan, and Jothibabu, and the injured were rushed to Arakkonam and Thiruvallur government hospitals for treatment.
The Nemili Police have been investigating the matter to find out the cause of the accident.
