Part of a five-story building in Timovskaya town collapsed after a gas cylinder exploded in an apartment at 5:30 a.m. Moscow time, officials said.
The region’s governor Valery Limarenko told the sources: “Nine people were killed, including four children.” The Russian Emergencies Ministry said 60 rescuers had been deployed.
The TASS news agency quoted a source associated with the emergency services as saying that the explosion was caused gas cylinder. The explosion was so strong that it destroyed the apartment block itself. According to agency sources, this cylinder was attached to the cooking gas stove and it was a 20-litre gas cylinder. So right there, Russia’s Investigative Committee has said that it is investigating the reasons for this incident.
Some of the bodies have been pulled out of the debris while a search is on for others who could be trapped under the rubble.
Those affected by the explosion have been offered temporary shelter and the homeless families will be paid 500,000 rubles (around $8,217). Sources reported that families of the victims are likely to receive one million rubles as compensation.
