French: On Tuesday, Local authorities said that at least 5 people including a child have died while crossing the English Channel, hours after the UK approved the migrant deportation bill.
Today, The local authorities added that the bodies were discovered at the Wimereaux beach in northern France. The local government office told media that three men and a woman were also among those killed on the dinghy carrying 110 people from the beach in the town of Wimereux, close to the resort of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
They said, “After hitting a sand bank, the boat made it back out to sea. A crush then appears to have happened on board the overcrowded boat, leading to several casualties.” This came only hours after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s latest effort to send some migrants on a one-way ticket to Rwanda finally won approval from Parliament. Human rights groups have described the legislation as inhumane and cruel.
So far this year at least 15 people have died trying to reach English shores, according to reports. The British government plans to deport some people who enter the country illegally, in a bid to stop migrants risking their lives travelling in leaky, inflatable boats in the hope they can seek asylum when they reach Britain.
