5 people dead, 40 injured after bus falls from bridge in Jajpur district of Odisha

Odisha: An official said that at least five people, including a woman, died after a bus carrying around 50 passengers skidded off a flyover on National Highway-16 near Barabati in Jajpur district of Odisha. According to the information, around 38 others were injured in this incident.

Odisha: An official said that at least five people, including a woman, died after a bus carrying around 50 passengers skidded off a flyover on National Highway-16 near Barabati in Jajpur district of Odisha. After receiving information about this incident local police reached on the spot.

According to the information, around 38 others were injured in this incident. Tapan Kumar Naik, Inspector in-Charge of Dharamshala Police Station said, “Four men and a woman have died in the accident. Around 40 people are injured, and 30 of them are being taken to Cuttack SCB Medical College.”

The bus was on its way to West Bengal’s Digha from Cuttack when the accident happened. A local who witnessed the accident said it is likely that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

About this incident,local said,”We were at the nearest bus stand, we found that the bus driver was driving recklessly and moving the bus randomly. We think the driver was drinking liquor while driving.” A rescue operation is underway at the accident spot by fire services personnel and locals.

After the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his condolences over the tragic incident and announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 3 lakh each for the families of the deceased. He said,”I am saddened to know about the passenger bus accident in Barbati Street area of ​​Jajpur district. I pray for the immortal soul of the deceased and express my condolences to their families. Also, I wish all the injured a speedy recovery.”
