6 Killed in violence in Assam-Meghalaya border firing, internet shut in 7 districts

Assam Meghalaya Border Clash: There is a situation of tension on the border of Assam and Meghalaya. Violence broke out here on Tuesday morning when a truck involved in timber smuggling was stopped. In which 6 people including the forest guard have died. After this the internet has been shut down in the area.

Shillong, Meghalaya: There is a situation of severe tension on the border of the two states of North East India. Six people, including a government employee, were killed in the firing that followed the violent clash, following which a large number of police personnel were involved in controlling the situation. The matter is of Assam and Meghalaya border. The atmosphere turned sour after a truck involved in girl trafficking was stopped here on Tuesday morning.

According to the information received from the news agency, 6 people died in the violence that erupted after the firing incident on the Assam-Meghalaya border on Tuesday morning. The clash started after the police had reportedly stopped a truck smuggling timber. In which six people including Forest Guard died. Tension is at its peak in the area after this incident. As a precautionary measure, the Meghalaya government has suspended mobile internet service in 7 districts for the next 48 hours.

Internet shutdown in these seven districts of Meghalaya
In an order issued by the Meghalaya government, it was told that internet has been suspended in West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills. The truck involved in timber smuggling is said to have been intercepted by the Assam Forest Department team at Moikrang in West Karbi Anglong district at around 3 am on the Meghalaya border.

Locals gathered in large numbers with sharp weapons in their hands
When the truck was stopped, the driver tried to flee, following which the forest guard chased them. Meanwhile, a large number of people from Meghalaya gathered at the spot at around 5 am with sharp weapons in their hands. These people were about to attack the police. In such a situation, the police had to fire in defence. After this, a violent clash started between the police and the people who had come from Meghalaya.

Five forest guards from Meghalaya and one from Assam died
Six people, including the forest guard, died in this violent clash. The forest guard who lost his life has been identified as Bidya Singh Lehte, while another forest guard Abhimanyu was injured in the incident. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that a total of six people, including five from Meghalaya and one forest guard from Assam, were killed in the incident. The injured were taken to the hospital. An FIR was registered by Meghalaya Police and investigation was done.
