6 people killed and 23 injured as tornadoes tear through Tennessee

Washington: Authorities said that 6 people dead and 23 injured afrer Tornadoes and severe weather on Saturday churned across the US state of Tennessee, heavily damaging homes, causing blackouts. County officials in a statement release said that three people, including a child, were killed when an apparent tornado touched down in Montgomery County, north of Nashville near the Kentucky state line.

Washington: Authorities said that 6 people dead and 23 injured afrer Tornadoes and severe weather on Saturday churned across the US state of Tennessee, heavily damaging homes, causing blackouts.

In a statement release ,County officials said that three people, including a child, were killed when an apparent tornado touched down in Montgomery County, north of Nashville near the Kentucky state line. Three of the deaths occurred in a northern suburb of Nashville, capital of the southeastern US state.

The Nashville Office of Emergency Management posted photos on social media showing downed trees and shattered homes. Montgomery County officials said another 23 there were treated for injuries at hospitals.

The office posted on social media X, “Unfortunately we can confirm there are 3 fatalities as a result of the severe weather on Nesbitt Lane.” A tornado touched down in Clarksville in the northern part of the state, leaving fatalities there as well.

In a statement,the Montgomery County government said,”We can confirm that three people are deceased, two adults and one child.” It added,”Additionally, 23 people have been treated at the hospital.”

First responders are “still in the search and rescue phase of this disaster,” it said, asking residents to stay off the roads. No other information about the victims was immediately available Saturday.Some 86,000 customers reported power outages in the state, according to the information, a tracking site.

In a statement,The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said that a tornado touched down around 2 pm. A shelter was set up at a local high school. News photos showed rows of homes blown down by fierce winds, crumpled trees, overturned vehicles and toppled power lines.
