Manipur: Heavy landslides occurred in Noni district on the intervening night of 29 and 30 June amid incessant rains in Manipur. The landslide occurred at the site of 107 Territorial Army Company of the Indian Army deployed near Tupul railway station in Noni district of the state to protect the under-construction railway line from Jiribam to Imphal. According to information received from sources, 7 soldiers have died in the accident, and 23 soldiers are missing. Rescue operation is going on. These TA’s company were posted at Tupul railway station in Noni district of Manipur, guarding the under-construction railway line of Imphal Jiribam.

The rescue operation is being carried out with full energy by the team of Indian Army and Assam Rifles. Engineered plant equipment available at the site has been deployed for the rescue operations. Till 5.30 am on Thursday, 13 people trapped due to the landslide had been rescued. The injured are being treated at Noni Army Medical Unit.

The district administration is in touch with national and state disaster management agencies for search, rescue and relief operations. Residents have been asked to remain alert for incessant rains, which may worsen the situation. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh held an emergency meeting. The CM tweeted that an emergency meeting was called to assess the landslide situation in Tupul today. Search and rescue operation is already underway. Doctors along with ambulances have been sent to the spot to assist.
