New Delhi: Today, the whole country watches the Republic Day parade very eagerly, because on this date in 1950, India became a sovereign republic. This parade is considered a major attraction of the Republic Day celebrations. The 74th Republic Day parade in Delhi will roll down Kartavya Path, the revamped ceremonial boulevard from the British period once known as the Rajpath, for the first time today. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is the Chief Guest this year.
Along with them, a 120-member Egyptian contingent is also participating in the marching parade. This time 23 tableaux depicting India’s vibrant cultural and historical heritage, economic and social progress are participating in the parade. In this parade, only Made in India i.e. indigenous weapons will be displayed. A 21-gun salute will be given from the 105 mm Indian field gun made in India. Newly recruited Agniveer will also be a part of the parade.
Security has been beefed up in the national capital ahead of the 74th Republic Day celebrations today. According to the Delhi Police, around 65,000 people will witness the parade on January 26 and about 6,000 jawans have been deployed, which includes the paramilitary forces, and NSG apart from Delhi Police. The Kartavya Path will be monitored with the help of around 150 CCTV cameras.

Cultural performances will be presented by 479 artistes chosen through the nationwide “Vande Bharatam” dance competition. This is the second time that the dancers have been selected through a nationwide competition.
The grand finale will be the eagerly-awaited flypast, where aircraft from three forces will participate. The country’s new Rafale fighter aircraft will perform the concluding Vertical Charlie manoeuvre. Though Rafale had been part of the parade in the last two years, this is the first time a quarter of the fleet – nine aircraft – will participate in the flypast.
