In a major blow to AAP in Uttarakhand, state unit chief joins BJP

New Delhi: On Tuesday, The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered its second setback in less than a month in Uttarakhand as the former state chief Deepak Bali, a day after resigning from his post and party memberships, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and state president Madan Kaushik welcomed Bali into the party.

Earlier, AAP leader, Colonel (R) Ajay Kothiyal, who was also the party’s CM candidate for the upcoming 2022 Assembly elections in Uttarakhand called it a quit and joined the BJP.

Earlier on Monday, the AAP Uttarakhand unit chief Deepak Bali announced his resignation from the party citing “being uncomfortable with the party’s methodology”. Submitting his resignation letter to AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal Bali mentioned that he won’t be able to carry on with the functioning of the party and therefore asked for acceptance of his resignation from the position of Uttarakhand state chairmanship. He also shared the letter on his official Twitter handle.

Taking to Twitter Deepak Bali said, “Respecting the sentiments of the people of Uttarakhand, the youth of the state, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami ji and the BJP State President Shri Madan Kaushik took a pledge to serve Mother Bharti by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party under the joint leadership. Jai Shree Ram ! Long live Mother India !”
