A major accident! Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight engine catches fire mid-air, makes emergency landing in Patna

New Delhi: On Sunday, A Delhi-bound SpiceJet aircraft (Boeing 737-800) was forced to make an emergency landing at Patna airport after the aircraft reportedly caught fire mid-air. According to reports, the engine of the plane caught fire and was first noticed by local people, the reason for the fire is not yet known. Over 180 passengers were on board and there has been no report of any injury.

No injuries or casualties have been reported yet. Several videos shot by locals have started circulating on social media. The videos show sparks coming out from the left engine of the SpiceJet aircraft.

Chandrashekhar Singh, Patna District Magistrate told media, “The Delhi-bound flight had returned to Patna airport after locals noticed a fire in the aircraft and informed district and airport officials. All 185 passengers were safely deboarded. The reason is a technical glitch, engineering team analyzing further.” He added that the reason for the fire was a suspected technical glitch and that the engineering team was conducting further investigations.

According to the reports, the flight was struggling to achieve normal flying altitude. It was in the air for nearly 25 minutes, before making an emergency landing at Bihta Airforce Station in Patna.

After the report came, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi took to her Twitter handle and said this is playing with the lives of passengers.
“Repeatedly been raising this with the minister, with the aviation secretary. Don’t know when they will rise to the occasion and avoid a major mishap waiting to happen,” Chaturvedi tweeted.
