Lucknow: On Saturday morning, A police officer informed that At least five people died and one people was injured after a truck ran over a group of kanwar devotees from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. later one person who was injured died during treatment, which pushed the death toll of the incident to 6, police said.
According to the information, the incident happened around 2.15am on Saturday. One person, who was seriously injured has been hospitalized. The truck driver managed to flee from the accident spot.
Rajeev Krishna, Additional Director General of Police, Agra Zone said, “5 dead, 1 seriously injured after seven Kanwar devotees were moved down by a truck around 2.15 am today, at Sadabad PS in Hathras. They were en route to Gwalior from Haridwar with their Kanwars.” Later one person who was injured died during treatment, which pushed the death toll of the incident to 6. The official said that the probe into the incident is underway and they have received information about the truck driver. He assured that the culprit will be nabbed soon.
According to the report, in the beginning of this week, while bathing in Haridwar, seven Kanwariyas were swept away from the strong flow of the river Ganga. After the inclination in the river, he was operated in the joint campaign by the army and the police. Haresh Chaudhary, Zonal Magistrate said that the team of army swimmers have saved at least 18 congregation from drowning.

Even schools in Haridwar and Meerut have also been closed due to the Kanwar Yatra. The Haridwar Schools will remain closed till July 26, 2022 and Meerut schools will be closed till July 27, 2022.
