New Delhi: On Saturday, five people have been killed and 19 others injured after a magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck southern Iran. The 6.0 magnitude quake hit 100 kilometres (60 miles) southwest of the port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province, the US Geological Survey said. The quake struck just a minute after a 5.7 tremor.
19 people were also reportedly wounded due to the quake. They were taken to hospitals. Panic gripped the area after the earthquake. Tremors were also felt in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Qatar. Netizens from UAE and other areas where tremors were felt shared videos of buildings shaking during the quake.

Major geological fault lines crisscross Iran, which has suffered several devastating earthquakes in recent years. Last week also, an earthquake of 5.6-magnitude struck Iran’s southern Gulf waters.
