Khatkar Kalan, Punjab: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is slowly but surely spreading its wings in other states apart from Delhi. The party got a thumping victory in the recently concluded assembly polls in Punjab. It proves that the Delhi model of Kejriwal is gradually gaining popularity in other states of the country as well. The broom swept other parties, and the landslide victory speaks to the popularity of AAP among the people. Party workers worked from pillar to post for the success of AAP. This proved to have dividends; festive moods can be seen in the AAP camp. The elected members and their supporters are enjoying Holi before Holi. The time has come for the oath-taking ceremony.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann is set to take oath as the new chief minister of Punjab today at Khatkar Kalan. This village is the ancestral home of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. All the arrangements have been finalised for this oath-taking ceremony. It is expected that Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and senior party leaders, along with two lakh people, will participate in the March 16 swearing in ceremony.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made to maintain the law-and-order situation and control the huge crowd. As per the officials’ report, about 8,000 to 10,000 security personnel have been deployed for the peaceful conclusion of the event. Police officers of the rank of Inspector General and Senior Superintendant Police have been keeping their eyes on the entire situation. The district administration has left no stone unturned and is ready to meet any situation. They announced a holiday in schools today.
Keeping this in mind, proper plans have been put in place to deal with any health issues that may arise. Health officials have arranged about 30 ambulances. In addition, 12 first aid teams have been asked to remain vigilant and respond to any health emergencies as smoothly as possible.
The district police have planned a new route for the proper travel of huge vehicles and commuters who want to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bhagwant Mann.
Top brass of the Punjab administration have been monitoring the situation to keep the law-and-order situation under control so that no untoward incident should take place. The designated chief minister, Bhagwant Mann, has made it clear that “it is not only me. With me, three crore people of Punjab will take an oath with me. He promised to fulfil all the dreams of Bhagat Sigh and his thinking would be implemented with immediate effect. Mann went on to say that the AAP government would be a government for all. He urged the people of Punjab to wear “basanti’ colour turbans, and women needed to wear basanti dupatta. Mr. Mann is ready to turn the Khatkar Kalan into basanti colour on March 16.
Bhagwant Mann has to face several challenges after taking the oath as the chief minister of Punjab. In the beginning, he has to solve the farmers’ issues. It would be challenging for him to pacify the farmers.
He was elected from the Dhuri Assembly seat, defeating his Congress rival, Dalvir Sigh, by a huge margin of 58,206 votes.
Before entering politics, he worked as an actor, comedian, and satirist. He was a well-known face before entering into politics. The political career of Mann started in 2011 when he joined the People’s Party of Punjab. But he turned coat and joined AAP in 2014 to get political mileage. He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in the Sangrur constituency and defeated his rival, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, by 211,721 votes. Gradually, he got more and more respect in the party and became convener of AAP in 2017. Since then, he has never turned back, despite several changes in his political career. Currently, Bhagwant Mann is the cynosure of all eyes. The people of Punjab have shown a lot of faith in Mr. Mann and the AAP party with the hope of development. If he works like Kejriwal and applies the Delhi model to the state, then it is expected that he will get more and more support from the people of Punjab in the coming days.
