New Delhi: Several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators, along with slum dwellers, staged a dharna, and they were protesting outside Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramesh Bidhuri’s residence on Lodhi Road in New Delhi on Saturday.
Those who are protesting are AAP MLAs Atishi, Madan Lal, Katar Singh Tanwar, and Sahiram Pahalwan. They are demanding to stop the demolition of slums in South Delhi neighbourhoods such as Tughlaqabad.
Apart from AAP legislators, slum dwellers are also standing in front of the BJP MP’s residence with placards that read, “Shame on you, BJP, stop demolishing slums.”
Atishi, the senior AAP leader, alleged on Friday that the BJP-led central government has been sending notices to slum areas in the city to demolish their houses. Before the MCD elections, the BJP had made a promise to build flats and allot to them. After the results, everything was forgotten.
Atishi further added that a similar kind of notice has been sent to slum areas in Tughlakabad. They were asked to vacate their homes within 15 days.
In fact, the BJP In its pre-poll promise, made it clear that free flats would be provided to slum dwellers. After the debacle in the MCD polls, the central government has started serving notice to them to demolish their houses
