Australia Aaron Finch announces retirement from International Cricket

New Delhi: Australia’s star player Aaron Finch has announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday. Earlier, he has also retired from ODI cricket. In September last year, he announced his retirement. At this time Australia is going to play Border Gavaskar Trophy against India. Finch’s retirement just before that has surprised everyone.

Finch has played five Tests, 146 ODIs and 103 T20 matches in his career. He is the only Australian player who captained the team in 76 T20s. He scored runs in his 103 T20 matches at an average of 34.28. His strike rate was also 142.5. In the year 2018, against Zimbabwe, he had set a different record by scoring 172 runs in 76 balls. But now Finch has taken retirement from international cricket. This is considered a big blow for Australia before the series with India.

Regarding his retirement, Finch said in a statement that I have a feeling that I will no longer be able to play the 2024 T20 World Cup. In such a situation, it is the right time to take retirement so that the team can work on its future strategy. I would like to thank my family, wife, team, Australia cricketers who supported me throughout my career. Heartfelt thanks also to those fans who kept their support continuously. Winning the T20 World Cup in 2021 and ODI World Cup in 2015 are going to be the most special memories of my career. To play for my country in these 12 years, facing some of the best players, is an honor that everyone aspires to have.

“Team success is what you play the game for and a maiden T20 World Cup win in 2021 and lifting the ODI World Cup on home soil in 2015 will be two of the memories I cherish the most,” Finch said. Since making his T20 international debut against England in January 2011, Finch has scored 8,804 runs, including 17 ODI hundreds and two T20 hundreds.

Cricket Australia chairman Lachlan Henderson said Finch was one of Australia’s best white-ball players. Henderson said, “While he was fiercely competitive on the field, Finch always played the game with a smile on his face and that too in the right spirit.”
