Abducted Bihar govt teacher forced to marry at gunpoint in Vaishali; Rescued by police

Vaishali/Bihar: In a tragic incident in Bihar’s Vaishali district, a 23-year-old teacher named Gautam Kumar was abducted at gunpoint from his school premises and forcibly married. A young teacher recently appointed through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) was kidnapped by Rajesh Rai and his associates while teaching at Government Middle School, Repura in Pattepur block.

Gautam, a resident of Mahaiya village, was forced to marry Chandni Kumari, daughter of Rajesh Rai, who runs a brick kiln in the area. His abduction was followed by immediate action by his family and locals, who protested and blocked the Tajpur-Mahua road demanding his release.

The incident has sparked widespread anger in the local community, leading to protests by the victim’s family. An FIR has been registered at Patepur police station on charges of kidnapping, physical assault and forced marriage. The victim’s family alleges that Rai was kidnapped and forcibly married at gunpoint, a claim that has further intensified the public’s demand for justice.

Fortunately, the police immediately intervened, conducted a rescue operation and successfully freed Gautam from his captors. Following his rescue, authorities announced plans to record his statement under Section 164 of the CrPC after producing him in court.

The incident highlights the dangerous practice of forced marriage and kidnapping in Bihar, and emphasizes the need for stringent legal measures to deal with such acts. The recent judgment of the Patna High Court, declaring ‘pakrua marriage’ (forced marriage) invalid, is an important legal precedent to address such cases.

In a previous case, Ravikant, an army constable from Nawada district, had faced a similar incident of kidnapping and forced marriage at gunpoint in Lakhisarai district. However, the intervention of the High Court annulled the marriage, setting an important legal precedent in dealing with such practices.

The kidnapping and forced marriage of Gautam Kumar highlights the need for strict enforcement of laws to safeguard individuals from such coercive and unlawful acts. This reinforces the importance of maintaining legal measures to protect the rights of individuals and prevent incidents of forced marriage and abductions in society. The local community and the teacher’s family await justice, and emphasize the urgent need for stronger security and safety measures for the citizens of Bihar.
