A complaint has been filed with the Lokayukta against officials of the Karnataka government for allegedly aiding rape-accused Lingayat seer Shivamurthy Murugha.
Bengaluru: A complaint has been filed with the Lokayukta against officials of the Karnataka government for allegedly aiding Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, the head of the Murugha Mutt, in eluding the law in a case involving the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offenses (Pocso).
A complaint was lodged by activist HM Venkatesh against jail superintendent Marukatti, district surgeon Basavaraj, and district health officer Ranganath for aiding the Lingayat seer. The seer’s health had reportedly been becomg worse, according to all of these individuals. They advised sending him to the hospital in Bengaluru.
In his complaint, Venkatesh claimed that the authorities had misused their powers
Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, a Lingayat seer who had been detained in connection with the Pocso case late on September 1, was shifted to the district hospital for treatment the following day after complaining of chest pain.
Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru was detained for sexually assaulting minor girls. However, like other culprits, he claimed that he was dragged into the case. Apart from the seer, five people, including the warden of the monastery’s hostel, are accused in the case, which was registered in Mysusu after a complaint by two minor girls.
