Kathmandu: Kathmandu mayor Balen Shah has banned all Indian films in the city. Not only this, police forces have also reportedly been deployed in Nepal capital to ensure that no film made in India is screened in theatres. Their secretariat informed, “All 17 halls have been asked not to screen Indian films.”
The move comes days after the mayor of Kathmandu expressed his dismay with the dialogue ‘Janaki is a daughter of India’ in Adipurush and claimed that Sita was born in Nepal.
On Sunday, the Mayor issued a statement on his Twitter handle and claimed ‘cultural encroachment’ on Nepal through Adipurush. “If the film is screened as it is, it seems that the nationhood, cultural unity and national identity of Nepal will be severely damaged and irreparable damage will be done.
KMC spokesperson Naveen Manandhar said, “As per the directive issued by the KMC, all cinema halls in Kathmandu will stop screening Indian films from Monday. “We have already spoken to cinema owners in Kathmandu for cooperation And they have agreed to voluntarily stop screening Hindi films in cinema halls in Kathmandu from Monday.” He said cinema halls can show Nepali films instead of Hindi films from Monday.
Let us tell you that ‘Adipurush’ was released all over India on Friday. The film stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as Mata Sita and Saif Ali Khan as Lankapati Ravana. ‘Adipurush’ has been released in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil languages.
