Afghanistan: Loud blast, gunfire near hotel popular with Chinese visitors in Kabul

Kabul: On Monday, a loud explosion and gunfire were heard near a guest-house famous for the movement of Chinese businessmen in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. An eyewitness has given this information.

Although the Taliban claim that the security situation in Afghanistan has improved since they came to power in August last year, many blasts and attacks continue to happen there. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for many of these attacks. An eyewitness told FP there was a loud bang, then multiple gunshots. Local media has also given the same information.

Security officials were not immediately available for comment on the blast. The blast took place in Shahr-e-naw, which is one of the main commercial areas of Kabul.

After the Taliban came to power, many Chinese businessmen have started coming and going in Afghanistan. Beijing has also started its embassy in Afghanistan but China does not officially recognize the Chinese rule in Afghanistan.

According to residents of the Shahr-e-Naw area in central Kabul, shootings continued in the area after a powerful explosion. Reportedly, the attack was carried out at a hotel where Chinese and other foreigners usually stay. A significant number of Chinese business people have been visiting Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power.
