He attended the voting session for the appointment of the Deputy Chairman of the house as every vote counts, with the ruling government and the opposition both fielding candidates for the post.

Arun Jaitley took a break from the office in April following to a renal transplant after which Railway Minister Piyush Goyal became the acting Finance Minister.

According to the information given by the Press Trust of India, Mr Jaitley had a bariatric surgery soon after the BJP-led coalition came to power in 2014. The surgery was to treat weight gain that he suffered because of a long-standing diabetic condition.

Mr Jaitley has been active on social media for the last few weeks, from taking on opposition parties to writing on issues including cuts to the goods and services tax rates.
