Johnson’s party men have made it clear that they have no more faith in the current PM amidst the “partygate” scandal. The scandal dealt a big blow to Johnson’s government. Some of his party men say they have submitted letters to officially call for a vote of confidence.

Johnson, who came into power as the Prime Minister of the UK in 2019, has seen several ups and downs during his three-year tenure. His handling of Covid-19 lockdowns was criticised by his aides.

It is expected that at least 54 Conservative members of parliament are required to formally demand a confidence vote from the chairman of the party’s 1922 Committee for one to be triggered. The letters are confidential, so only the chairman of the committee knows how many have been submitted.

More than 25 lawmakers have openly gone public with their letters so far, and as per the report by the Times, party officials and rebel lawmakers thought they were on the brink of the 54 threshold, with one believing the key number had already been passed.

Johnson’s Conservatives are trying their best to defend two parliamentary seats in bypolls electin later this month after the sitting lawmakers were asked forcefully to quit. Both culprits were caught red-handed in two different cases. One was watching porn in parliament while the other was charged with sexual activity with a boy.

The Labour Party is looking upbeat because it is 20 points ahead of the Conservatives in one of these polls.
