Mumbai: Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s wedding news has surely taken many by surprise. But, what turned this normal alliance into something much bigger and unexpected was his commitment to take this relationship ahead after his past at least three relationships that ended right before turning up into something serious. Based on Ranbir’s love affairs’ history, it could be said that this 39-year-old chocolaty boy was afraid of commitment. However, when he fell in love, he fell really hard.
Many of you might remember Ranbir being in love with a divorcee-socialite shortly after his debut film ‘Saawariya’ was out. His love for her was so intense that once he had reportedly threaten to kill himself if he didn’t get to marry her. But as the relationship was not approved by Ranbir’s mother, Neetu Singh, Ranbir was over the romance in no time.
Then he was rumoured dating Deepika Padukone and spilled his guts out in a talk show. When he was asked about his wedding plans by the TV host, the actor had said, “I’m very happy in my relationship with Deepika. Do I look like a frivolous person to you? But before you ask, we aren’t getting married right away. Let’s see where it goes. And neither are we going to sign films just to be together. She has her career to focus on. I have mine. Coincidentally, we started our careers on the same Friday. We have our priorities in place. Beyond all the grace and dignity she projects, she’s also very simple and shy. She has simple needs. She’s caring. And she respects her family. I really like that. Also she’s an independent career woman at 22. She’s achieved so much in so little time. I’m extremely proud of her achievements. And I’m so happy to be part of her life. We became close while we were shooting in Australia for a month for ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’. That’s when we really got to know each other. Then we shot a Pepsi ad together when we returned to Bombay. Her parents are extremely nice and caring people. I tell my mother everything. So there was no way I could be in a serious relationship without my parents knowing.”
On being linked to a number of stunning ladies Ranbir objected., “I think it’s very unfair for the women who are linked so carelessly with me. I can imagine how embarrassing it is for the girl and her family. Me being linked with Sonam Kapoor was inevitable. Every time two newcomers do a film together, they are supposed to be involved. We’ve been friends since childhood. She’s an amazing girl.”
When Katrina Kaif won Ranbir’s heart, he stopped telling the public about his love life. Katrina, on the other hand, was eager to go an extra mile for the love of her life. She was truly willing to give up her career to play Mrs Ranbir Kapoor in real life and had stopped signing films. They had moved into their love nest, where they planned to dwell after their wedding.
However, this romance too withered as Ranbir suddenly changed his mind and walked away from the relationship. This abrupt conclusion of the relationship without a suitable closure, just crushed the actress. Her heart took a long time to heal and now, thankfully, Katrina is in a happy place with her hubby Vicky Kaushal.
What kept Deepika and Katrina from becoming the Kapoor ‘Bahu’ was their inability to get along with Ranbir’s mother, Neetu Kapoor. The first rule of dominating the Kapoor khandaan as their Bahu is to seek Mama’s boy’s blessing. Before she could become Mrs Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh had to literally work on Mrs Krishna Raj Kapoor. Rishi Kapoor had waited ten decent years to propose to Neetu.
The Alia-Ranbir connection has a lot of Neetu-Rishi vibes in it. Rishi, too, had been in a number of relationships. The buck, however, came to a halt with Neetu.
The same can be said for Alia, who is well-known for her friendship with Neetu Kapoor. During Rishi’s extended sickness, Alia would drop all her schedules and fly to the United States to be with Ranbir’s parents, with or without Ranbir.
This was the time when Ranbir reportedly decided to marry Alia. Rishi and Neetu were both enthusiastic about the alliance. It has been said that if Rishi Kapoor hadn’t died two years ago, Ranbir would have married Alia. The incident had a far greater impact on the actor than he could have imagined.
However, now the actor seems to have met his soulmate with whom he is ready to settle down. The much awaited wedding of Bollywood’s most popular couples, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt will be heald on April 14 in a very private ceremony at Vastu.
