Officials said AI Express B737 (VT AXZ) operating as IX-442 from Muscat to Cochin, during taxi for the takeoff, experienced smoke and fire in engine number 2. “All passengers (141+ 4 infants) have been evacuated. No injuries have been reported and they have been transported to the terminal building,” an official said.
Aviation regulator DGCA will probe the incident, according to an official. The video of Air India engulfed in smoke went viral on social media soon after the incident. The video showed the Air India aircraft, amid a thick white smoke, surrounded by the airport staff.
According to the information, 141 passengers and 6 crew members were present in the flight. However, all are safe. At the same time, the team of engineers is investigating the aircraft. After this incident, Air India Express is arranging another plane for the passengers. So that passengers can be brought from Muscat to Cochin.
