Unveiled a transformation plan for The scheme seeks to take Air India on the path of sustained growth, profitability and market leadership. Air India this week announced leasing of 30 new aircraft over the next 15 months and introduced premium economy class for the first time since the Tata group took control of the airline after 69 years by the government.
A spokesperson for the airline said, “As part of Vihaan AI, Air India has drawn up a detailed roadmap with clear milestones to dramatically grow both its network and fleet, develop a completely revised customer proposition is focusing on taking the leadership position in technology, sustainability, improving reliability and timely performance and innovation, investing aggressively behind the best industry talent.”
An airline official said that the transformation plan has been developed after feedback from the employees of the airline on their aspirations and hopes for Air India’s growth, focused on exceptional customer experience, robust operations, industry-best talent, industry leadership, commercial efficiency, and profitability, an airline official said. The immediate focus remains on getting the basics right. A second official said, “…the more medium to long term focus will be on building excellence… to become a global industry leader…”.
“This is the beginning of a historic transformation for Air India, and the dawn of a new era. We are laying the foundation for a brave new Air India, with a renewed sense of purpose and incredible momentum,” Air India MD and CEO Campbell Wilson said in a statement.
Wilson said the change had begun as repairs to the cabin, serviceable seats and in-flight entertainment system were underway. “We are refining the proactive maintenance and flight schedule to enhance performance over time. The expansion of our fleet will include a combination of both narrow body and wide body aircraft to meet diverse network needs. The enthusiasm and shared commitment to running Vihaan.ai is evident across the organization and stakeholders will recognize the changes as the new face of Air India emerges.”
