Airman, 22, shot himself while on duty at Memaura Air Force station in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

An airman shot himself with a service rifle on Wednesday morning in the 505 signal unit of the Air Force located in Memaura Cantonment area of ​​Banthra. Lucknow:A 22-year-old airman shot himself with a service rifle on Wednesday morning in the 505 signal unit of the Air Force located in Memaura Cantonment area of ​​Banthra. The reason for the suicide has not been clear in the investigation of the police and the Air Force so far. Suicide note was also not found from the spot.

According to the police, Airman Vignes Sundar (22), originally a resident of Ponnagram, Pratham Gali in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, was posted to the 505 Signal Unit of Memaura about two years ago. He lived in the government residence of the Air Force station complex. Flying Officer Ahul Soman told the police that Vignesh was on duty as a sentry at the guard post at the main gate of the operation room from 5 pm on Tuesday. Vignesh shot himself on the forehead with his service rifle at around 9 am on Wednesday.

He died on the spot. After informing the Air Force officers, his family members have left for Lucknow.

Initial investigation revealed that Vignesh fired the rifle at his forehead, which went through. The rifle has been seized for investigation. Finger prints have been taken. Postmortem of the dead body will be done after the arrival of the family members. Police say that after talking to the family members, the reason behind the suicide might be known.

According to police sources, where Vignesh was on duty, taking multimedia phones and taking photographs is prohibited. Two days back Vignesh had taken his multimedia phone there. According to the information, he had also taken photographs there. On knowing this, the officers seized his phone and reprimanded him.

It is suspected that he committed suicide because of this. DCP South Vineet Jaiswal said that the reason for the suicide of the airman could not be clarified. The suicide note was also not recovered. Further investigation and other action will be taken after the arrival of his family members.
