Lucknow: Just six months before the crucial assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to launch a mega campaign in the state. This has happened after the party settled its house and fueled all speculations of clashes between its leaders in the state and at the Centre. With the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath receiving unprecedented support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the PM’s recent visit to Varanasi, the Center under undeniable unity and leadership of the CM.The message of conviction has been proved beyond doubt. Keeping its house in perfect order, it is time for the BJP to focus on the fight ahead.
For a party that is under a somewhat anti-incumbency wave, there are immediate challenges to tackle the question of managing the COVID pandemic and the perception of discrimination against upper caste Brahmins and the most backward classes. These are the issues that BJP leaders feel will be used the most as weapons by the opposition forces.
BJP’s Strategy Decode
For the ruling party facing challenges from strong regional forces, particularly the Samajwadi Party and to a lesser extent the Bahujan Samaj Party, the strategy is about good governance, expertise in welfare schemes and rejuvenating the organization’s common worker (often cadre)by setting his morals on fire. This technique of organizational revival, with a focus on the last mile employees and taking the flagship schemes of the government to the general public, is at the core of the BJP’s ballot trick.
Additionally, a senior BJP chief said, “Unlike major opposition parties which fail to capitalize on the popularity of their leaders because they lack the organizational strength to convert goodwill into popular votes, the BJP has a strong ability to do so.”
