“Justice Sharma has recommended Scheduled Tribe status for Paharis.”PM Modi is ready to implement the suggestions, he said during a mega rally in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.

He said Paharis, Gujjars, and Bakarwals earlier had to face discrimination because they were deprived of reservation. He also went on and said that reservations for Paharis would adversely affect other backward communities like the Gujjars and Bakarwals, who are recognised as STs in Jammu and Kashmir.

“I will express my gratitude to Paharis, Gujjars, and Bakerwals who stood like rocks against terrorism,” he added.

The BJP leader attacked people who were against removing the special status “Article 370 and 35A” from Jammu and Kashmir. It was abolished by the Modi government. Had we not abrogated Article 370 and 35A, would ST communities have gotten political reservations? Paharis and other communities will now be recognised, “he said.

In addition to promoting democracy at the grassroots level, Shah argued that the repeal of Article 370 and 35A also helped in the suppression of insurgency and allowed for a crackdown on terrorism in the Valley.

Slogans earlier chanted for the grant of ST/SC status at Amit Shah’s rally in Rajouri. Additionally, the mobile service has been suspended in parts of Jammu and Rajouri districts in the wake of the Home Minister’s visit.

Amit Shah visited the famous Mata Vaishno Devi temple atop Trikuta Hills in Reasi district on the occasion of Maha Navami, where he offered his prayers at the shrine.
