Andhra Pradesh: Ruckus at Chandrababu Naidu’s rally, TDP and YSRCP workers clash

Chandrababu Naidu was doing a road show in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. When his roadshow was proceeding towards Pongunur via Angallu, YSRCP workers tried to stop him and pelted stones at him.

Chittoor: A clash broke out between TDP and YSRCP workers during TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s rally on Friday (August 4) at Annamayya in Andhra Pradesh. Stone pelting has also been done from both the sides. Police said TDP as well as ruling YSRCP supporters and several policemen were injured in stone-pelting and arson during N Chandrababu Naidu’s visit.

Naidu is on the ‘Yuddh Bheri’ tour aimed at highlighting the failure of the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government in completing irrigation projects in various districts. These projects were started during the Chief Ministership of Naidu. According to preliminary information, more than 20 policemen deployed to provide security were injured.

Attack on more than 20 policemen including DSP

Chittoor District Superintendent of Police Y Rishanth Reddy said a gruesome stone-pelting incident was reported on the way to Punganur where more than 20 policemen, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police, were attacked. Amidst the arson and stone-pelting, the mob also attacked the police. During this, the police saved their lives by hiding behind the Bajra vehicle.

Many supporters from both sides were injured in stone pelting.

Reddy said reacting to these remarks, supporters of the ruling party blocked the Angallu road in Chittoor while Naidu was also moving towards there. According to the Superintendent of Police, TDP workers then pelted stones in which several supporters from both sides were injured. He said that in a riot-like situation, the police resorted to lathicharge and dispersed the crowd. Apprehending law and order problems during Naidu’s next rally scheduled at Punganur, the police barricaded the entrance to the town and allowed the roadshow to go through a bypass.
