Mangaluru: Another cold-blooded murder took place near Mangaluru on Thursday evening when a 23-year-old man was hacked to death by some unidentified goons outside a textile shop in Surathkal.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Fazil, a resident of Mangalpete near Surathkal. He became seriously injured after the stabbing. The deceased was rushed to the hospital but died before reaching the hospital.
The incident occurred at a time when Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was on the way to visit the house of Praveen Nettar, a BJP youth wing leader who was killed at Bellare on Tuesday night.
Mangaluru City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said three to four miscreants stabbed him to death. A case has been registered at Surathkal police station.
The commissioner made a request not to spread and believe rumours. “I visited the spot where the incident took place and spoke to eyewitnesses. There is no clarity yet regarding the motive behind the attack. As a precautionary measure, Section 144 has been imposed in Surathkal, Panambur, Mulky, and Bajpe police station limits till 6 am on July 30th. Liquor shops will remain closed on Friday in the tense areas. Police have kept an eye on the situation and prohibitory orders may be extended if required, he said.
The commissioner said, overall, 19 check posts have been established in the Mangaluru Commissionerate to nab the assailants. Schools under the four police station limits will remain closed.
