Another incident of EV fire! Tata Nexon EV catches fire in Mumbai; Carmaker says probe on

Mumbai: In yet another incident for EV fire, These days many incidents of fire in electric vehicles have come to the fore. We have reported incidents of fire in electric scooters from time to time. However, now this matter is not limited to electric two-wheelers. Recently, a case of fire in Tata Nexon EV has come to the fore.

The incident happened on June 22, 2022, when a Tata Nexon electric SUV caught fire in Vasai area of ​​Mumbai. Its videos are now going viral on social media. In the viral video, the fire brigade team can be seen sprinkling water on a burning Nexon EV.

Tata Motors is investigating the matter
In this matter, Tata Motors said in an official statement, “Investigation is being done in detail to ascertain the facts of this isolated incident. Will share the details after that. We are committed to the safety of our vehicles and their users. More than 30,000 EVs have covered a total distance of more than 1 million kms across the country in about 4 years, this is the first such incident.”

According to the reports, the owner of the car had charged the Nexon EV with the normal slow charger installed in his office. He heard strange sounds after driving it at a slow speed for about 5 kms. Soon after, he got an alert on the instrument cluster, seeing which he put it aside and went out.

Tata Nexon EV is the best selling electric car in India. Around 2,500 to 3,000 units of this EV are sold every month. This electric car gets a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The powertrain generates 129bhp power and 245Nm peak torque. It is mated to an automatic transmission. The Nexon EV has an ARAI-certified driving range of 312 kms on a single charge. Earlier, no incident of fire in Nexon EV has been reported.
