California: Apple in order to end its dependency on China is reported to shift the production of it’s core products like; iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other devices in India and Vietnam for this quarter, as per reports on Thursday.
As per the report, Cupertino-based company will start production of latest 5G iPhone 12 series which is planned to begin from the middle of this year, “with plans to start producing the latest iPhone 12 series locally as early as this quarter.”
Meanwhile, assembly of iPhone 11 and XR models are already going on in India, along with iPhone SE, 7 and 6S.
“Apple and many other tech companies all want out-of-China production capacities, and that has not slowed even though the US has a new president,” said a supply chain manager stating that this will be the first time that the Apple will build a significant number of the devices outside of China. He further added, “And they are studying not only peripheral products. Apple, for example, aims to build capacity in new locations, mostly Southeast Asia nations, for multiple core products, such as iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, AirPods and others”.
To note, Apple which is world’s biggest tablet maker had already moved the production of Mac mini to Malaysia while it is likely to move parts of its MacBook production to Vietnam later in 2021.
The company is increasing production capacity for smart speakers, earphones and computers in Southeast Asia as part of its ongoing diversification strategy which may also shift production of iPads and iPhones along with AirPods, the HomePod mini, MacBooks out of China as per reports. However, Apple has not made any official announcement yet.
