Former world No. 1 archer Deepika Kumari made a triumphant return to competitive archery, clinching two gold medals at the Asia Cup Leg 1, marking her comeback after a 14-month break due to embracing motherhood. India showcased archery dominance, securing a total of 14 medals, including 10 gold, three silver, and one bronze.
In a remarkable display of skill and resilience, Deepika Kumari secured the recurve women’s title by defeating Simranjeet Kaur with a scoreline of 6-2. Not content with individual success, Deepika played a pivotal role in the women’s team’s victory, guiding them to overcome Uzbekistan in a nail-biting shoot-off finish, resulting in her second gold medal.
The final day of the Asia Cup Leg 1 witnessed an archery spectacle as Indian archers swept all seven finals. The recurve men’s and mixed teams secured two more gold medals, with Dhiraj Bommadevara clinching the men’s title by defeating Tarudeep Rai with a score of 7-3.
Prathamesh Jawkar added to India’s gold medal tally by claiming the compound individual title, outperforming teammate Kushal Dalal with a score of 146-144. In the compound women’s category, Parneet Kaur showcased her prowess by prevailing over Fatemeh Hemmati of Iran with a score of 138-135 to secure the gold.
