Arrest Made in Case of Cheating Involving Vivek Oberoi’s Former Business Partner: Police

Mumbai : The Mumbai Police have taken Sanjay Saha, the former business partner of actor Vivek Oberoi, into custody on charges of defrauding the actor of ₹1.55 crore.

According to the police, Oberoi’s firm, Oberoi Mega Entertainment LLP, lodged a formal complaint against Sanjay Saha, along with Nandita Saha, Radhika Nanda, and others, in July.

The police have registered the case under sections 420, 406, 409, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In the complaint filed by Vivek Oberoi’s Chartered Accountant, Deven Bafna, it is alleged that the accused individuals had initially invested in an event management and film production company associated with the actor, promising to generate profits. However, it is alleged that they subsequently misappropriated these funds for personal gain.

Datta Nalawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) with the Mumbai Police, stated, “A cheating case was filed at the MIDC police station in July. Directors of Anandita Entertainment LLP were accused of misappropriating funds. Three directors from Anandita Entertainment LLP have been accused, and one of them has been apprehended. Several other cases of fraud have been registered against the arrested individual in various police stations. The suspect is now in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing.”

Vivek Oberoi and Sanjay Saha entered into a business partnership in the film industry in 2020. Their collaboration led to discussions on how to proceed with their film-related ventures, and through Sanjay Saha’s company, Anandita Entertainment LLP, they decided to produce a film.

Between 2020 and 2021, Vivek Oberoi invested ₹95 lakh in Sanjay Saha’s company. Subsequently, Saha’s company initiated plans to create a film starring Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in March 2021, as confirmed by the police.

For the film project, Vivek Oberoi’s company provided ₹51 lakh to Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Additionally, Oberoi extended financial support to the writer and director of the project. As the film neared completion, concerns arose regarding its release on an OTT platform. During discussions between Oberoi and Sanjay, it came to light that Sanjay Saha had allegedly withdrawn funds from Anandita Entertainment LLP for personal purposes.

Based on the complaint filed by Vivek Oberoi’s Chartered Accountant, a case was registered against the accused and their associates at the MIDC police station in Mumbai.
