Arvind Kejriwal Sent to Tihar Jail, Not His First Time: A Look Back at Past Jail Terms

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been sent to Tihar jail until April 15 in connection with the liquor policy case, marking his third stint in the high-security prison.

This is not the first time Arvind Kejriwal has found himself incarcerated. Previously, he was arrested twice and sent to Tihar Jail. The first instance was during the 2012 anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare, followed by a defamation case filed by Nitin Gadkari in 2014.

This time, Mr. Kejriwal enters Tihar as the Chief Minister, leading the prison authorities to bolster security around his cell.

In Tihar’s Jail No. 2, he joins his ex-deputy, Manish Sisodia, in Jail No. 1, former Health Minister Satyendar Jain in Jail No. 7, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in Jail No. 5.

Sources reveal that Arvind Kejriwal woke up early this morning and was served breakfast around 6:40 am – tea and a few slices of bread. Given his diabetic condition, medical staff are available 24/7 for any emergencies, with regular check-ups scheduled during his imprisonment. He has also been permitted to carry toffees in case his sugar levels drop.

“Arvind Kejriwal slept on his own bed, different from the regular one provided by jail authorities. He used his own bed linen, considering his weakened immune system prone to potential severe allergic reactions,” sources within Tihar jail disclosed.

Furthermore, he has been granted a chair and a table within the cell.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief was arrested on March 21 in connection with a corruption case linked to the Delhi liquor policy. AAP has reiterated that there will be no change in leadership, even if it means Mr. Kejriwal conducts his duties as Chief Minister from the confines of the prison.
