As Yamuna water level breaches, CM warns people to evacuate In Delhi’s low-lying areas

New Delhi: After torrential rains, there is a threat of flood in Delhi. The Yamuna river is in spate due to release of water from Haryana. The water level of Yamuna river in Delhi reached 208.05 meters till 10 pm on Wednesday night. After this, water has started seeping from the wall of Yamuna Bazar. The water level of Yamuna can reach 208.30 meters by 8 am on Thursday. In such a situation, in view of the danger of flood, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena has called a meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Thursday. The meeting will be held at 12 noon.

The water level of the Yamuna river rose to 207.83 meters on Wednesday. This is the highest level of water in the Yamuna here after 1978, due to which water has increased in the areas falling in the submergence area. Yamuna water has reached a major road in North Delhi. Kashmiri Gate, Ring Road, ITO are also waterlogged. Yamuna water has also started coming on some routes from East Delhi to Central Delhi and Connaught Place.

CM appealed to the people of low lying areas to vacate their houses

Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called an emergency meeting of ministers in view of the threat of floods. The preparations to deal with the flood situation were discussed in the meeting. Kejriwal has told the people living in low-lying areas on the banks of the Yamuna that they should not wait, vacate these areas immediately. Although people have already started evacuating the area. People here have taken shelter in relief camps.

Kejriwal wrote a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah seeking help from the Centre. In this, it has been said that water should be released in a controlled manner from Hathni Kund Barrage in Haryana.

Delhi government issued a statement
In a statement, the Delhi government said, “At 8 pm on Wednesday, 1,47,857 cusecs of water was released from the Hathini Kund barrage. As per the latest forecast released by the Central Water Commission (CWC), the water level at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) is expected to rise.” It is expected. Between 4:00 am and 6:00 am on July 13, the Yamuna water will reach 207.99 metres. After that it is likely to remain stable.

According to the report, for the first time after 2013, the water level of Yamuna at the old railway bridge crossed the mark of 207 meters at 4 am on Wednesday. That’s why the movement of the bridge has been stopped. People living in low-lying areas are being shifted to safer places in higher areas. Forty-five boats have been deployed for rescue operations and the help of NGOs is being taken to provide relief to the evacuated people.

Apart from this, all DMs and sector committees of the respective districts are on alert mode. Delhi Police has imposed Section 144 of CrPC in some areas as a precautionary measure. The Delhi government believes that this situation will remain for some days.

In view of rising water level in Yamuna, MCD has issued advisory for cremation grounds. “People may face inconvenience due to Yamuna water entering Nigam Bodh Ghat premises. The general public is advised to visit cremation facilities near Nigam Bodh Ghat or other cremation grounds in their neighbourhood,” the MCD said. Use the.” The MCD said that there is waterlogging at the Geeta Colony cremation ground as well. Therefore, additional arrangements have been made at Karkardooma and Ghazipur cremation grounds.

In view of the threat of flood, 45 boats have been deployed for shifting and rescue operations. A total of 12 teams have also been deployed at the most sensitive points in terms of flood affected areas. NDRF teams are also on standby. Arrangements have been made for food and medicine for the people living in the shelter home.
