New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday denied that he is being offered the Congress president post by the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi.
I’m hearing this from the media. I don’t know about this. I’m fulfilling duties that have been assigned to me, “the senior Congress leader said.
“I have been given work by the high command. I am an observer in Gujarat for the upcoming polls. I am not compromising on my duties in Rajasthan. I am hearing the rest of the news from the media, “Ashok Gehlot said.”
Prior to their meeting, Sonia Gandhi apparently asked Gehlot to ‘take up’ the party leadership position. Before leaving for Ahmedabad, the Rajasthan CM had just landed in Delhi solely to attend the meeting at 10 Janpath. Despite the fact that his name has been circulating, the party hasn’t yet made an official announcement.
Gehlot is the high command’s preferred candidate since he has extensive political experience. He has a long association with Gandhi’s family. So he is a trusted lieutenant and acceptable to old and new leaders.
A difficult political decision must be made at a time when Congress is lacking on all fronts. The party has lost the people’s faith. He likes to remain the Chief Minister of Rajasthan till the assembly polls in the state next year. Therefore, he is unwilling to pass the baton to Sachin Pilot.
On Monday, Ashok Gehlot said the party was unanimously in favour of Rahul Gandhi for the post of new Congress chief.
