New Delhi: On Sunday, India golf star Aditi Ashok won a historic silver medal for India at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. Arpichya Yubol of Thailand won the gold medal by defeating the Indian player with a score of 19 under 269.

Aditi won the second prize by finishing the four-round competition with a score of 17 under 271. Aditi was in the race for the gold medal with a seven-stroke lead over second-placed Yubol before the fourth round on the final day.
The 25-year-old Indian recorded a score of 22-under 194 after the first three rounds. She was seven shots ahead of Yubol but her performance was poor on the final day and her score was 5 over 77.
Notably, Aditi Ashok is the first Indian woman to win a medal in golf at the Asiad. India had earlier won six medals at the continental showpiece but all of those were won by men. This is India’s first Asiad medal in the sport after 13 years. India last bagged a medal in 2010.

The trio of Indian shooters Prithviraj Tondaiman, Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Kynan Darius Chenai ended up with 361 points on the leaderboard to clinch the top honours. Kuwait took home the silver medal while China finished third to win bronze. All three Indians finished the qualification round inside the top eight but only Sandhu and Kiyanan will compete in the individual finals today.
The women’s trap team of Rajeshwari Kumari, Manisha Keer and Preeti Rajak bagged silver with 337 points. China, which clinched gold with a world-record-breaking 356 points. Kazakhstan won bronze with 335 points. Manisha, with 114 points, advances to the individual final. The gold takes India’s medal tally to 41, which will help the nation stay fourth in overall medal standings.
