The authorities retrieved the body and dispatched it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem examination. The young boy, named Rajdeep Roy (sharing the same name as the BJP MP), was a student in the fifth grade and had been residing at the MP’s house along with his mother and older sister for several years, according to his family.

Originating from the Palong Ghat region in Cachar district, the family explained that the boy’s mother was employed as domestic help at MP Rajdeep Roy’s residence. They had relocated to Silchar a few years ago to provide the children with better educational opportunities, as conveyed by a family member to the media on Saturday evening.

Upon receiving the news, the BJP MP promptly returned home, revealing that the room’s door (where the body was discovered) had been locked from within. When the authorities managed to open it, they found the boy unconscious. Despite being taken to a nearby hospital and receiving medical attention, the boy’s life could not be saved.

Police indicated that preliminary evidence points to suicide as the likely cause of death. The family members also disclosed to law enforcement that the boy had expressed anger toward his mother for not acquiring a mobile phone for him to play video games.

Before venturing out to purchase groceries with her daughter, the boy’s mother had been requested to lend him her mobile phone, which she declined. During her absence of around 40 minutes, she returned to find the room’s door shut from the inside. MP Rajdeep Roy, however, voiced skepticism about the circumstances surrounding the boy’s demise.

While initial inquiries lean toward suicide, Roy expressed uncertainty. He disclosed having communicated with senior police officers in the district and urging them to conduct a thorough investigation.

The MP described the boy as a bright student, having observed his handwriting and engaged with him on a few occasions. He emphasized the personal loss he and his family are experiencing, expressing shock at the situation.

Law enforcement officers visited the residence, meticulously examining the scene. An official stated that cooperation was received from all parties involved, and the investigation is ongoing.
