Panaji: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that he was not involved in the departure of eight Goa Congress MLAs who recently joined the BJP.
Eight of the eleven Congress MLAs in Goa, including former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, defected to the BJP on Wednesday.
Himanta Biswa Sarma was accused by the Congress of orchestrating its leaders’ defecting to the BJP.
“I’m not sure why the Congress talks about my role in the defection of Congress MLAs to the BJP,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said. “Politically, I have never been to Goa”.
The Congress party has been facing difficulty in most states. The same incident took place in Goa recently, where eight of its 11 MLAs, led by top leaders Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo, shifted sides and joined the ruling BJP, reducing the opposition party to just three members in a House of 40.
